At the Wyo Theatre in Sheridan on Friday, December 21, 7:30 p.m., enjoy Dave Munsick and his three sons, Tris, Sam and Ian on guitar, bass, piano, fiddle and four-part harmonies for a Christmas Concert that features new songs by each boy and many of Dave’s best works.
Ian Tyson once said, “Dave Munsick is a damned fine fiddle player, a pretty good singer, and he’s nice to his dog.” Add to that his poignant songs that perfectly capture the feel of life in the Big Horns and three sons who threaten to take over the the family business of songwriting and great instrumental playing and you have a great evening out.
Music comes naturally to the Munsick family. As soon as they were old enough to get instruments in their hands, the boys began picking up some tunes off of their dad, and eventually developed their own sound. When they decided to do this concert, Dave gave each boy the challenge of writing a Christmas song that meant something special to him. Listen for Ina’s high tenor in The Wish and think about what a country Christmas is like from the eyes of a boy. Or, know what it’s like to live Christmas from the old porch looking back through Sam’s Christmas in Texas. Tris’s Down and Out on Christmas Eve even gives a nod to the style of good old dad Dave. The dog, unfortunately, had to stay home.
