Announcing the 2017 Blanchan/Doubleday Writing Award Winners

The Wyoming Arts Council announces the winners of the 2017 Blanchan/Doubleday Writing Awards. Erin Jones of Laramie has won the Doubleday award for her entry, “The Conners.” Winner of the Blanchan award goes to Jayme Feary of Jackson for his entry, “Moving On.”

Judge for the awards was Taylor Borby, an award-winning essayist and poet. A fellow at the Black Earth Institute, Taylor’s work has appeared in numerous journals, magazines, newspapers, as well as public radio. He is the editor of the country’s first anthology of creative writing on fracking, Fracture: Essays, Poems, and Stories on Fracking in America. He is Reviews Editor at Orion Magazine, and his first poetry collection, Crude: Poems, will be released next year. He is currently at work on another poetry collection as well as a collection of essays.

The Neltje Blanchan and Frank Nelson Doubleday awards are made possible through the generosity of a private donor. The Blanchan award is given for the best writing that is informed by a relationship with the natural world; the Doubleday award is given for the best writing by a woman writer.
