Two receptions are scheduled this month for the Wyoming Arts Council’s Art in Public Buildings program. Both receptions are free and open to the public.
A reception is scheduled at Gillette College, Pronghorn Center, Art in Public Buildings Reception, scheduled for August 22 at 5:30 p.m. Three Gillette artists have artwork in the new building: Tricia Scheele, Tom Ford, and Rede Ballard.
A second reception is scheduled at Eastern Wyoming College, Career and Technical Education Center, Dedication and Open House, scheduled August 24 from 3 – 6:30 p.m.
The artists with work on view are Ed Sherline (Laramie), Ginnie Madsen (Laramie), Laura McElfresh (Aurora, CO), Tory Rider (Blackfoot, ID), Greg Walter (Dickinson, ND), and Gareth Curtiss (Fortine, MT).
The Art in Public Buildings program is designed to beautify Wyoming’s public buildings and draw attention to the wealth of artist experience within the region.
The artwork for each project is selected by a committee specifically selected for that project. Each committee typically consists of representatives from the community in which the building is located, representatives from the user agency, artists or other representatives from the art community, the architect for the building, and a representative from the State’s Construction and Management Office.
The Wyoming Arts Council coordinates and leads the committee meetings to help administer the project, but does not vote on the selection of artists or artwork.
