Arts Association of Jackson Hole features “Portrait of Wyoming” exhibit

The Art Association of Jackson Hole is excited to announce the second installment of the Wyoming Art Party’s traveling exhibition: “Portrait of Wyoming.” This statewide artist collaboration features the work of 38 Wyoming artists, writers, and crafts people.

An opening reception for the exhibit will be held on Friday, Feb. 27, 5:30-7:30 p.m., in the Art Association Gallery in the Center for the Arts in Jackson. The exhibit runs Feb. 27-April 10.

Begun by two local Laramie artists, June Glasson and Meg Thompson, the Wyoming Art Party seeks to organize projects and shows that connect individuals who work in different mediums (fine arts, literature, music, craft) throughout the state, with the aim of presenting art in Wyoming as it is, rather than as it is thought to be.

For this show, participants were invited to create a “Portrait of Wyoming” in whatever medium they chose. The heart of this project is collaboration. Each artist was paired with another, with whom they would trade pieces, and whose work they would “finish” as they saw fit.

The show seeks to connect individuals scattered across the state that don’t usually work together, and to encourage artists to create something outside of their day-to-day work.

The show was first exhibited in Laramie in 2014. After it is exhibited at the Art Association, it will travel to the Lander Art Center.
