From the Pocatello (Idaho) Arts Council:
The Pocatello Art Council is sponsoring a Stone Sculpture Symposium to be held in Pocatello, Idaho, on October 6 through October 12. An application is attached or can be found on our website, along with requirements for artists, calendar of events and a statement of working conditions
The purpose of the symposium is to create stone benches and to provide a forum for teaching, learning and participation by the community. While the theme of the symposium is to produce benches for public use, the participating artists will be expected to work sensitively around the framework of sustainability, conservation, and awareness of historical and environmental, as well as cultural heritage and value.
This call is open to qualified artists residing in Idaho, Montana, Washington, Wyoming, Oregon, Nevada and Utah.
Pocatello is located in southeastern Idaho in the Portneuf River Valley and has a rich and long history as a railroad town. It is also home to Idaho State University and the Shoshone/Bannock Indian Reservation is nearby. A city of 50,000-plus population, Pocatello is surrounded by hills and mountains. Outdoor activities are easily accessible. The city also boasts an historic Old Town and a Greenway along the Portneuf River . Pocatello, also known as the “Gate City” prides itself on volunteers who serve to beautify and enhance the quality of life in their community.
Participating artists will be chosen by a panel of Jurists consisting of members of the PAC, and members of the community at large chosen by PAC. The jury’s decision will be based upon the evaluation of the artist’s application portfolios.
