This summer, “going to the dogs” means something great for the community: the Laramie County Library System hosting some wonderful canine-themed events.
To begin, a new book discussion series kicks off in June. Sponsored by the Wyoming Humanities Council, registration is already underway for the first session of Canine Companions, a discussion of “Merle’s Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog” by Wyoming writer Ted Kerasote. That session takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18. To register and obtain a copy of the book, visit the “Ask Here” desk on the library’s first floor.
This series, which explores the relationship between humans and dogs, is led by Luke Stricker of the University of Wyoming’s English Department.

Next, “Read to Rover” returns to the library. With this annual summer series, kids (those that are independent readers) are welcome to read to licensed therapy dogs. This helps the readers practice their skills in a friendly environment and gives the dogs more practice with humans. The sessions take place from 1-3 p.m. on June 26, July 31, and Aug. 21.
