Creative Capital’s Sean Elwood to lead grants information session Sept. 23 at UW

Creative Capital Foundation will be leading an information session on its upcoming grant round at the University of Wyoming Visual Arts Building in Laramie, Room 111, on Monday, September 23, at 6:30 p.m.

Sean Elwood, Director of Programs & Initiatives, will be present for an informal presentation and to answer questions regarding the Creative Capital’s upcoming grant rounds.  Creative Capital is a New York City-based nonprofit organization that acts as a catalyst for the development of adventurous and imaginative ideas by supporting artists who pursue innovation in form and/or content in the performing and visual arts, film and video, and in emerging fields. Creative Capital is committed to working in long-term partnership with the bold and groundbreaking artists whom they fund by making a multi-year financial commitment while providing advisory services and professional development assistance along with promotional support throughout the life of each Creative Capital project. Its pioneering approach — inspired by venture-capital principles — helps artists working in all creative disciplines realize their visions and build sustainable practices.

In 2014, Creative Capital will be considering proposals in the Film/Video and Visual Arts. In 2015, the grant round will re-open for Emerging Fields, Innovative Literature and Performing Arts proposals. Since 1999, CC has committed $29 million in financial and advisory support to 418 projects representing 529 artists, and its Professional Development Program has reached 5,900 artists in more than 170 communities.  For in-depth information on the foundation, past recipients and current work, please visit www.creative-capital.org.

The session is free and open to the public.

Elwood is the former Curator and Collection Manager of the Seattle Arts Commission, Director of Special Projects at Ronald Feldman Fine Arts (New York) and Manager of the Art Residency Program at the Centrum Foundation (Port Townsend, WA). He founded SEEDITIONS Art Publishing Company and co-owned Fuller/Elwood Gallery (Seattle). He currently serves as a member of the board for Triple Canopy (Brooklyn) and on the advisory boards of the Lower East Side Printshop (New York), The Watts House Project (Los Angeles) and Louisiana Artworks (New Orleans). “I see Creative Capital taking great risks by investing in people’s art projects and careers… The money is a huge help, but the services are irreplaceable and completely unique-genuinely and thoroughly transformative.”– Jake Mahaffey, 2005 Film/Video Grantee
