Darcy Lipp-Acord of Weston was a finalist in the 16th annual WILLA Literary Award competition. She received the honor in the creative nonfiction category for Circling Back Home: A Plainswoman’s Journey (South Dakota State Historical Society Press) at the Women Writing the West conference Oct. 16-19 in Golden, Colo.

Each year, Women Writing the West celebrates “the best of 2013 published literature for women’s or girls’ stories set in the North American West.” It is the underwriter and annual presenter of the WILLA  award, which is named in honor of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Willa Cather.

Winners and finalists are chosen by a panel of professional librarians at colleges, universities, public libraries and research institutions.

Winner of the WILLA in creative nonfiction was Gaining Daylight: Life on Two Islands by Sara Loewen (University of Alaska Press).

Lipp-Acord was the recipient of the 2014 Wyoming Arts Council Neltje Blanchan award for nature writing for excerpts from Circling Back Home.
