From a UW press release:
Two student organizations in the University of Wyoming College of Agriculture and Natural Resources are now accepting submissions for a sustainable fashion show later this semester.
Members of Phi Upsilon Omicron and the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences will team up to host an “Eco Chic: A Sustainable Fashion Show” Friday, April 11, at 5 p.m. in the UW Visual Arts Building.
There is no cost for the show and no entry fee for participants. Registration/attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis because space in the Visual Arts lobby is limited. All UW students, staff and faculty are eligible to submit sustainable fashion items. Five different categories are available for participants to submit their garments, and each category will be judged on different criteria.
Submission forms are due March 14, with actual garments due April 4. Submission forms, categories and judging criteria can be found at http://aafcsuwyo.wix.com/ecochic.
The show will raise awareness about sustainable fashion and the positive impact that sustainable fashion can have on the environment, says student organizer Emily Schroeder. The show also serves as a creative outlet for students, staff and faculty who have an interest in fashion, art, sustainable practices and environmental awareness.
Schroeder says designers can request their item be placed in the silent auction, with proceeds benefiting the “Biojewelry for Breast Cancer” organization at UW. Additionally, the organization will have jewelry for sale at the event. Proceeds will go toward various benefits associated with the group.
