Elizabeth Long Lingo presents creative leadership workshops Oct. 28-29 in Jackson

Press release from the Center of Wonder in Jackson:

The Center of Wonder is pleased to announce that nationally recognized creativity scholar, Elizabeth Long Lingo, Ph.D., will be in Jackson from October 28-30 to present two public workshops and consult with selected arts and creativity leaders.

As the founding director of the Creative Campus Initiative at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Lingo designed and implemented a campus-wide initiative to place creativity, design thinking, and innovation at the center of campus life. Along with Stephen Tepper, she co-edited the forthcoming special edition of the journal of Work & Occupations on “The Changing Nature of Creative Work in the 21st Century.” Now, as the President of NexusWorks, she consults with Ivy League Universities on curriculum development, teaches strategic leadership and innovative design to MBA students, and works with communities to develop city-wide creativity initiatives.

Lingo’s visit to Jackson coincides with current community conversations in Jackson about supporting creative economies and arts leadership. She says, “Communities often find themselves stuck: wanting to innovate, better leverage untapped resources, and find ways for partners to work collectively to enhance the vitality of their creative ecosystems. Yet such action is difficult without a clear understanding of unarticulated assumptions, perceived barriers, and the range of possibilities for meaningful innovation, rooted in the unique strengths of the place.” She’s asking participants—and anyone who is interested—to take a five-minute survey about the community to help identify resources to better leverage.

Lingo will offer two workshops along with in-depth meetings with 10 local creative leaders. On Monday, October 28 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Dancers’ Workshop Studio 2, she will host a workshop geared towards artists, arts administrators, and arts leaders. On Tuesday, October 29, Lingo will teach a workshop for the general public on creative leadership development. Both will be fast-paced, dynamic, hands-on workshops that offer targeted, creative tools. Lingo wants participants to leave with stronger skills in team building, empathic listening, design thinking, and improvisation. Her work in Jackson will help both organizations and individuals identify and hone their creative leadership skills.

Space is limited and registration is required and the workshops and consultations are free thanks to the generous support of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole and Dick Collister. To sign up for either workshop, inquire about consulting, or to take the survey, please contact Jen Simon at jen@centerofwonder.org.
