The public is invited to attend several free events in conjunction with Plein Air in the Parks September 12-15 at Sinks Canyon State Park.
Plein Air in the Parks is a collaborative weekend event presented by Wyoming State Parks, the Wyoming Arts Council, and the Lander Art Center. This painting and drawing competition pairs talented artists with beautiful locations, and offers cash prizes to top participants.
The public is invited to visit Sinks Canyon State Park throughout the event, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fri., Sept. 13 and Sat. Sept. 14, to watch artists work and ask questions about the plein air process.
On Thurs., Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. a free public screening of the film, “Bending Sticks: The Sculpture of Patrick Dougherty” will be shown at the Museum of the American West Livery Stable.
On Fri., Sept. 13, 6-8 p.m., the public is invited to attend a reception at the Lander Art Center. The opening reception celebrates the exhibition, “Art of Home,” featuring artwork by more than 40 Native American artists. The reception will also feature music by the Big Wind Singers and food and drink will be provided.
Plein Air in the Parks concludes on Sun., Sept. 15 with an awards ceremony, reception, and art sale from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Sinks Canyon Visitor Center. Artwork created during Plein Air in the Parks will be on view and available for purchase. Visitors can also cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award during the reception.
