Casper College World Music Club makes debut with music from Cuba, Brazil and the Middle East

From a Casper College press release:

The Casper College Percussion Ensemble will be teaming up with the newly formed Casper College World Music Club to present an exciting evening of percussion and mixed chamber ensemble music on Thursday, May 1 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

According to Dave Alcorn, director and percussion instructor, the first half of the concert will feature the Casper College Percussion Ensemble performing works “by iconic American composers known for pushing the boundaries of percussion. Works by Henry Cowell, John Cage and Lou Harrison feature a variety of ‘found’ percussion instruments including tin cans, flowerpots, springs, metal pipes and washtubs.” In addition, “violin virtuoso Jennifer Cowell will be joining the percussion ensemble on Lou Harrison’s “Concerto for Violin with Percussion Orchestra,” noted Alcorn. “The first half will close with Russell Hartenberger’s beautiful mallet quintet ‘The Invisible Proverb,’” he added.

The second half of the concert will be the debut of the Casper College World Music Club. “This group of students and community members will be playing transcriptions and arrangements of music from Brazil, Cuba and the Middle East. This energized group of musicians will surely make you want to get out of your seat and start dancing,” Alcorn said.

The concert is free and open to the public. The Wheeler Concert Hall is located in the Music Building on the Casper College campus.
