From a press release:

The Fremont Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Rebecca Murdock, is proud to kick off its 28th season with a fall concert on Saturday, November 8, at 7 pm at the Lander Valley High School. Tickets are $10 at the door, and $20 for families. Donations are also welcomed.

This special program features Evan Drachman performing the monumental Dvorak Cello Concerto on his Stradivarius cello.  Drachman is founder and artistic director of the Piatigorsky Foundation, an organization that brings renowned works of the classical repertoire to rural communities in the United States.  He is the grandson of legendary cellist Gregor Piatigorsky, and he continues his grandfather’s tradition of brilliant technical performance combined with rich and deeply powerful expression.

The Dvorak Cello Concerto was written in 1894 by Czech composer Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904). It is widely regarded as the most beloved concerto ever written for the cello.  This piece features soaring, inspiring themes, and some of the most beautiful melodies ever conceived. Drachman loves presenting the piece and its historical and dramatic context to audiences, allowing them to appreciate it even more. This performance is not to be missed.

The program also features Hungarian Dances by Brahms and Habanera by Victor Herbert.  Also, the ever popular Imperial Orchestra presents the Russian Sailors Dance by Gliere, and joins the FSO to present a waltz by Shostakovich.
