On Saturday, June 6, 2:30 p.m., Wyoming Arts Council folk and traditional arts specialist Anne Hatch will present a program, “Meet Your Neighbors: Folk Artists in Park County,” at the Park County Library in Cody. The event is free and open to the public.

For those unfamiliar with the definition of folk artists, Hatch explains that “they are your neighbors whose creative activities have been cherished for generations and are passed down through families and other close-knit groups. Although rarely found in museums or on the concert stage, folk art can include old-time fiddling, decorative rosemaling, saddle making and fly tying.”

During the summer of 2014, folklorist Elaine Thatcher traveled throughout Park County on behalf of the Wyoming Art Council’s Folk Arts Program. Elaine was charged with identifying folk artists living in Park County, meeting with local cultural institutions and reporting on ways for the Arts Council to best serve the region’s creative traditions.

Hatch invites county residents to “come find out who Elaine met, add yourself list to the list of artists, and see what your neighbors (and perhaps you) are creating. Collectively, these traditions make Park County a great place to be.”

For more information, contact Anne Hatch at 307-307-7721 or anne.hatch@wyo.gov.
