Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne will hold a pair of receptions for the opening of an exhibit of Joe Arnold’s work in the Esther and John Clay Fine Arts Gallery.
Receptions will be on Thursday, March 6, noon-2 p.m. and Friday, March 7, 6-8 p.m.
Arnold is from Laramie and was the recipient of a Wyoming Arts Council visual arts fellowship two years ago. He joined other fellowship winners at a biennial exhibit last fall at the Nicolaysen Art Museum in Casper.
Arnold is best known for his paintings of mountains. His recent work comes from a trip to Patagonia in Argentina. Here’s an artist statement:
These paintings are of the mountaineer’s view, the view from above. The perspective often is one of vertigo: looking down thousands of feet and then out toward the horizon near the top of the painting. Other paintings are of high viewpoints looking higher still. Some even have both perspectives. Arnold’s goal is to capture something of the mountaineer’s view, a perspective like no other.
