Three new visual WAC roster artists

Justin Hayward – drawing and painting
Casper
A full-time professor of drawing and painting at Casper College, Justin Hayward studied illustration at Brigham Young University, and earned an M.F.A. in painting from the New York Academy of Art. He studied at Florence Academy of Art in Italy, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and in private studios of renowned artists. He has exhibited in many national juried shows including the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery for which he was a commended artist and finalist. His workshops are designed to develop one’s confidence and technical skill in observational drawing and painting. Maura Jacobsen – potter
Cheyenne
Maura is a graduate of the University of Wyoming with a B.A. in art. She has been a studio potter for the past fifteen years, and works exclusively in hand-thrown and hand-glazed stoneware. Her simplified forms and color-washed, outlined images give a delightful and uncomplicated quality to her pieces. Maura is a substitute teacher and instructs private wheel-throwing and hand-building classes for children and adults. She promotes art through demonstrations in her community and in elementary and secondary schools, and is excited to share in the experience of making art with others. Contact: 307-637-7691; e-mail:

Mark Koons – woodworker
Wheatland
Woodworker Mark Koons was an Army medic stationed in Japan, manned auto assembly lines, and did industrial construction before opening his Wheatland shop in 1981. A member of the Furniture Society, his work has been shown across the U.S. and in Canada. He uses North American hardwoods and has done pioneering explorations in the fields of endgrain, and bent, tapered laminations, occasionally writing and speaking about what he’s learned. Mark has been called upon to judge and curate shows of fine craft. His work is in the permanent collections of the Wyoming State Museum and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center Museum.
