An opening reception for the Wyoming State Museum temporary exhibit “Traveling Trout,” is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 25, from 5-7 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Barrett Building in downtown Cheyenne. Refreshments will be served.

On display through Sept. 19, 2014, “Traveling Trout” features a series of three-foot-tall trout sculptures that were decorated by Wyoming high school students as part of a statewide art competition.

Offered by the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, with the assistance of the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund and Friess Foundation among others, the competition asked participants to transform plain white fiberglass trout into works of art.

As part of the reception, the Wyoming State Museum Store will be offering extended hours from 5 to 7 p.m. The evening’s special is 20 percent off of everything in the store.

The Wyoming State Museum is located at 2301 Central Avenue in Cheyenne. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Admission is free.

The Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources thanks Handle With Care, LLC, from Lander, for generously donating the shipping of these fun but fragile trout from their “home waters” in Jackson to Cheyenne.
