UW Art Museum reception set for Sept. 12


The University of Wyoming Art Museum’s official opening of the large-scale public art exhibition “Sculpture: A Wyoming Invitational” is Friday, Sept. 12.

The event opens with a free public reception on Prexy’s Pasture from 4-6 p.m. Many of the artists featured in the exhibition will attend. The exhibition continues through July 2009.

“Sculpture: A Wyoming Invitational,” a collection of 17 works, is an exhibition of public art on the UW campus and in several Laramie locations. To see a description and location of the entire works, visit the Web site http://www.uwyo.edu/news/showrelease.asp?id=25201.


Weekly tours of the sculptures, scheduled throughout September, begin at the Art Museum each Wednesday at 10 a.m. and each Thursday at 2 p.m. “Kick Off with Art Tours” are planned at 10 a.m. during all UW September home football games.

A special “Community Day” is scheduled Saturday, Oct.4, with bus tours to all the exhibition’s sculptures. Walking tours also will be offered.

The Art Museum is located in the Centennial Complex, 2111 Willett Drive. Reservations for the bus tours may be made by calling (307) 766-6622.

“Sculpture: A Wyoming Invitational” is organized by the UW Art Museum in partnership with UW, Laramie Parks and Recreation, Laramie Economic Development Corporation and the Albany County Public Library.

“Imagine learning from the masters” is a guiding principle of the UW Art Museum’s programs.
The museum and museum store are open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free.
