UW's Dr. Rachel Sailor discusses history of photography in the West Oct. 21

The public is invited to join the Albany County Historical Society Tuesday, Oct. 21st at 7:30 p.m. at the Laramie Plains Museum, 603 E. Ivinson to hear from University of Wyoming professor Dr. Rachel Sailor on the history of photography in the American West.

Sailor earned her B.A. in Art History from Oregon State University, her M.A. from the University of Oregon, and her Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 2007. She has published a number of articles on the history of photography in the American West, and also recently published her first book: Meaningful Landscapes: Landscape Photographers in the Nineteenth-Century American West (UNM Press, 2014).

In 2014 Sailor received a Georgia O’Keeffe Research Center Stipend in American Art for a five month residency in conjunction with her new book project: Pictorialism in the American West: 1900-1950. Previous to the University of Wyoming, Sailor taught at the University of Texas at Tyler. She teaches nineteenth and twentieth-century European art, American art, American Modernism and seminar courses on Art of the American West and American Photography.
