University of Wyoming faculty chamber ensemble Verismo Trio will perform a free concert Monday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The concert is part of the UW Music Department’s Faculty Recital Series.
The trio is composed of faculty members Theresa Bogard, piano; Nicole Riner, flute; and J. Scott Turpen, saxophone. The concert will be the official CD release of the trio’s debut album “cloudServer,” which features new works written and arranged for the group by contemporary composers from around the world. The CD was completed in August on the ACA Digital recording label.
Verismo Trio will present the world premiere performance of a set of new pieces composed as part of the Fifteen Minutes of Fame project sponsored by Vox Novus in New York City.
Fifteen Minutes of Fame is 15 one-minute works by different composers written for a specific performer or ensemble. The project provides a variety of new music by living composers, and all of the music for this set was selected by Verismo Trio as part of a composition contest last May.
Verismo Trio promotes living composers’ works and is dedicated to training the next generation of chamber musicians and new music lovers. Besides serving on the UW music faculty, the members hold positions on the Wyoming Arts Council roster, and the Nevada Arts Council’s Arts in Schools and Communities roster.
Copies of the trio’s CD “cloudServer” will be available for sale in the lobby before and after the concert.
